Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite has been awarded the Patient Safety Excellence Award by Healthgrades, recognizing the work the hospital does in avoiding potentially adverse effects during procedures.
It’s the third year running that DRMC has received the recognition.
“Receiving this award three times in a row really goes to show that we put the safety of our patients at the top of our list. We always say, ‘We are your community hospital,’ so our goal is to provide exceptional care to those in our community,” Glenda Matchett, CEO, Dallas Regional Medical Center said in a statement.
“These recognitions show we’re putting our money where our mouth is. If you need exceptional medical care, we’ll always be here for you.”
Around 50 hospitals in Texas also have achieved the award, but Healthgrades says those seeking care can be confident that hospitals achieving the Patient Safety Excellence Award are in the top 10 percent of all hospitals.
It evaluates “how well a hospital prevents injuries, infections, and other serious conditions based on 14 serious, potentially preventable adverse events,” according to the Healthgrades website.
DRMC moved into the top 5 percent of short-term acute care hospitals based on the metrics after being in the top 10 percent the past two years.
Matchett noted the award wouldn’t be possible without the work of the professionals at the facilities.
“The true heroes of the hospital are our staff and medical providers,” she said. “I’d like to thank each and every one of them for their service to our patients and the community. We operate as a family, and caring about our patients and our fellow team members is what makes our hospital successful.”
In addition to the overall patient award, Healthgrades also gave DRMC five stars on seven procedures:
- Appendectomy
- Pacemaker Procedures
- Treatment of Sepsis
- Hysterectomy
- Vaginal Delivery
- C-Section Delivery
- Hip Fracture Treatment
The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety program also recently gave DRMC an A.
The main facility is located at 1011 N Galloway Ave., with its emergency room open 24 hours. Hospital officials have encouraged those in need not to delay care even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
