It’s the time of year when we all come together to help one another, and a great way to help those in our community is working with the Mesquite Police Department’s Santa Cop Toy Program. The mission and purpose of the Santa Cop Toy Program are to provide support to children and families in Mesquite and the surrounding communities who may need a little extra help with Christmas presents.
To be eligible for the program, families must be served by the Mesquite Independent School District (MISD), and are nominated by members of the Mesquite Police Department (MPD), Mesquite Fire Department, City of Mesquite employees, or MISD counselors. Once families are selected by a panel, they a special Christmas holiday presentation involving Mesquite police officers, MISD school district personnel, Citizens Police Academy volunteers, students, and many more community volunteers. This festive event provides a generous amount of age-appropriate toys for Santa Cop recipients.
Dallas Regional Medical Center recently became a Platinum Sponsor of the program, and DRMC CEO Glenda Newby presented a $5,000 check to members of the MPD.
“We at Dallas Regional Medical Center are always looking for ways to help our fellow community members. Each year we sponsor a number of programs and community events in the City, but this program is near and dear to our hearts,” said Glenda Newby, CEO of DRMC. “Whenever we have a chance to positively impact a child’s life, it really motivates us to do whatever we can,” Newby continued.
